How do you celebrate being 100 days brighter? With activities of course! Kindergarten students got to have a 100 day workout in the atrium, had a 100 item museum where they brought 100 items of their choice, built LEGO towers with 100 bricks or less, and even tried to solve the age old question of how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.

Don’t forget that the Central Public Schools Preschool Open House is on February 12 and new family registration begins February 13. Let’s meet another preschool teacher!
Mrs. Pysick has been a teacher for 16 years and loves being able to connect with students and their families. She loves seeing young learners have growth in self confidence with social and academic skills while of course having a bunch of fun.
This year, she came up with a great way to keep kids connected to their parents while also helping with learning!
“We have had a year of missing our moms and dads! We came up with a plan to see what our parents were doing while students were at school called Parents Be Real at Work. Parents took snap shots of themselves at work and sent it to us,” said Mrs. Pysick. “The children also participated by having the teachers take snapshots of them working at school to send back. It was a great bridge between home and school!”
If you might already know our next preschool teacher. Terry Johnson has been teaching here for 21 years and loves seeing the excitement and joy in the eyes of her students as they learn and make new friends.
A typical day in her classroom is full of laughter and includes students having breakfast, doing calendar time, having a story, doing centers (small group activities), dancing to music, and play time to work on social skills.
She has lots of great stories from her time in the district, but this one stands out:
“I had a student that was very quiet and shy that I worked with for two years. During class we would work on all of our skills in talking and interacting with others. He was a wonderful student. As he grew up and continued on with his academic success, he became a leader and a great friend to many. He has always stayed in contact with me all the way until he graduated from High School. As he was getting ready for graduation, he and I had a talk about all of his accomplishments. As he was talking with me about them, he always said that it all started when he was in preschool and had teachers who were always there to help him. Not just when he was small but also as he was growing up. Every time that we see each other now, we hug and talk about what he is doing. I will always remember all of the special times with students and love having all of these wonderful memories!”
