Don’t forget that Monday is a staff development day with no school for students as well as an opportunity for conferences!

Let's spotlight one of the incredible Central Public Preschool teachers!
Betsy Pysick teaches students at the Cologne location and has been teaching for 35 years with 15 at Central. When asked why she enjoys teaching preschool she said:
"Preschool kiddos bring so much light to the world. I love watching as they discover new things, make new friendships and build confidence as they explore the world around them. Every day is a new day!"
She says she loves watching students embrace the growth mindset and gain confidence in both social and academic settings!

This adorably awesome event happened earlier this month, but today is a good day to highlight it. Check out these wonderful pictures from the Central ECFE Sweetheart Dance called “Twinkle Toes & Ties” which are just awesome!

Nothing says love like a picture by the biggest heart in school! Huge shoutout to Student Council for spreading the love with this amazing display! Grab your friends, strike a pose, and don’t forget to tag #RaiderLove!

Due to organized practices, the Field House will be walking track only on Sunday, Feb, 16. The Field House will also be closed on Monday, Feb. 17 for President's Day. Thank you for your understanding!

To celebrate the 100th day of school, the kindergarteners and first graders did some special projects.
Kindergarten made 100 day glasses out of pipe cleaners. They had to form the numbers, connect them together, and make them fit to their face. It was a great way to practice fine motor skills!
The first graders had two building challenges - to make a tower at least 100 cm tall, and to create something using only 100 pieces. They really used their creativity!

If there’s another way to learn about the phases of the moon that doesn’t involve cookies, we don’t want to hear about it!

Our food service partner wants to hear what students and families think of the school lunch program! Be sure to take part in this survey during the month of February!

Check out some of the other fun activities that first graders did during their Astronomy unit!

Let’s check in on a cool activity with Science Teacher Lauren Scherer:
What impact does ice have on solar radiation reaching Earth? 9th grade scientists created their own experiments to learn about the Albedo Effect (the way that different surfaces reflect sunlight back into space). We used heat lamps as our heat source and each group came up with unique ways to create conditions that represented icy and non-icy surfaces of our planet, then tracked temperature over time over multiple trials. Our conclusion? Ice is nice for planet Earth!

The learning and fun keeps going in Kindergarten at Central Elementary School! Students are segmenting and blending decodable words and recently played charades to help learn how to decode.
