Last week at Mississippi River National Park and Fort Snelling State Park, our fourth graders enjoyed learning about snowshoeing and survival. The students strapped on snowshoes and headed into the woods! While trekking through the snow, students learned how native animals have mastered the art of adapting to the chilly floodplain forest.

As a reminder, there is no school for staff or students on Monday, Feb. 16. Enjoy the long weekend!

Earlier this week, five 7th grade students participated in the after school Kids in the Kitchen cooking class with Food Service Director, Chantelle Eshleman. The students learned how to peel, core and slice an apple and measure ingredients for the apple crisp they made, which they then were able to take home.
Next, they learned how to dice and julienne onions and peppers and saute them on top of the stove, to then put on their flatbread pizzas they assembled, baked and ate. They received a certificate for taking the class and were able to take the apple crisp home with them. A good and delicious time was had by all!

Our 4th graders traded the classroom for the great outdoors today, exploring the beautiful intersection of the Mississippi River National Park and Fort Snelling State Park. We couldn’t have asked for a better "living laboratory" to bring our science and history lessons to life!
Watch for future posts for a closer look at how students spent their day!

Students in Ms. Turner’s class recently explored the wonders of space through a class read-aloud and then put their learning into action by writing letters to astronauts. We’re excited to share that one of our students received a response, along with a signed photo from his favorite NASA astronaut, Raja Chari!

Our school community is proud to see our students creating positive connections and showing compassion for others. That is Raider pride!

Last week, a big crowd of future Raiders attended our Kindergarten Registration Night! The families learned more about what to expect in kindergarten and they got to meet our team of teachers. We can’t wait to officially welcome the Class of 2039!

Recently, some of our middle school students spent time spreading the joy of reading by sharing stories with our preschoolers.

Last Friday, our high school students participated in another installment of Central Futures, this time focused on the trades and the opportunities they offer.
A huge thank you to our panel members who generously donated their time to share their experiences and provide valuable insight into the many paths available to our students’ futures.
Thank you to:
• Kate & Jason — Landscape Structures
• Jason & Paul — Sacket Waconia
• Tim — Waconia Comfort
• Steven — City of Minnetonka, Streets Department

Central Public Schools students enjoyed some special treats last week as Taher Chef Mike Demos visited! Elementary students enjoyed smoothie samples at lunch time. Chef Demos prepared made-to-order omelets for our secondary students for breakfast.
Also, he made Sticky Sesame Pork Loin, which was inspired from the Taher Chef Council's recent trip to China. It has a sweet and savory marinade with just a hint of heat, served with seasoned rice or noodles and roasted vegetables. The lunch room was even decorated to celebrate the Chinese New Year coming up soon!
